Prediabetes is a National Concern

If your A1c, which is the test for diabetes, is greater than 5.7, you have prediabetes.

In fact, over 33% of the US population has prediabetes.

The A1c test looks at your sugar intake over the past 3 months. In fact, one in 10 Americans has diabetes.

The test of glucose is usually done when you fast.

If you are prediabetic, you do not want to get diabetes. You need to eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, or turkey, nuts, olives and buy organic fruits and vegetables when you can.

You can also have beans, complex grains, like oatmeal, millet, whole wheat, quinoa, and other grains.

Sweet potatoes are fine to eat too.

Soda is not ok. Nor are hot dogs or deli meat. Please drink water, or soda water, or tea and coffee. It’s important to cut sugar out of your diet.

If you want something sweet always use less honey and/or maple syrup than the recipe says. You can also use some stevia, which doesn’t raise your glucose level.

Finally, exercise is also important. If you could walk for 10 or 20 minutes/day, that would be great.

Remember, an apple a day keeps the doctor away!
