Why Health Advocates Are Needed More Than Ever

Let's get down to business. The Coronavirus, pharmacists making fatal mistakes, hospitals in southern California shielding themselves from announcing new, fatal bacteria lurking in their facilities with no cure.

These were some of the articles that graced the New York Times over the past for months. But, today I am going to review the data of a new report about Pharmacists across the US, who are making fatal mistakes and blame it on not enough staff in the pharmacy department. What has been happening, is that patients were receiving the wrong medication from CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Publix.

The article mentioned a women in Florida who was dying in a hospital because a Publix pharmacy gave her a strong chemotherapy drug, rather than her antidepressant the prescription asked for. And CVS tried to compensate a young couple whose 4 month old baby was given a steroid for two months, when the baby should have been given a reflux medicine.

While one error is way too many, Pharmacists across the country have been calling state boards and associations to report patient safety concerns due to having to do the impossible, too much work.

Errors are part of this profit-ridden system. Errors occur in every facet of the health care system. This why the profession of health advocates has blossomed. Our job is to prevent errors from occurring and to catch them before a mistake is made. We are not perfect either, but we do our best to ensure the very best for our clients.

Please consider hiring a Health Advocate before you get a procedure, go to the doctor, get a medication, or go into a hospital or rehab facility. Health Advocate Experts can help you stay healthy!
