California and the Coronavirus

Please be thankful for the small things, like being healthy, being able to workout from home and being creative about it. Be thankful for being nourished, and emotionally supported by friends and family.

Be thankful for the outdoors and for flowers beginning to bloom, the rain, clean water, and having a car and gas to get you from point A to point B.

What can you do to entertain yourself besides watching TV? Put on your favorite music and dance, get moving.

Clean your house especially doorknobs, water spouts and light switches which we take for granted. Be creative and try embarking on something you have put off, like writing something special, eating more fruits and vegetables and creating interesting dishes which seems so hard, or begin a knitting class from an on-line group, and of course, read more!

While we have so much to be thankful for, remember that close to 7 million Californians don't have enough money to sustain their basic needs. And another 7.2 million live just above the poverty line for their County and are teetering on the brink of collapse. The closure of restaurants, beauty salons, nail outlets, movie theatres and bars will increase the number of people who cannot survive without a steady income.

In fact, according to Jesse Rothstein, a Professor of Public Policy at UC Berkeley., "Very few Americans have cushions to be able to live for months without pay, and low-wage workers, even less so." People are not only scared about getting Covid 19, but also of being out of work.

NPR, PBS News hour reported last week that 18% of American adults and 25% of people making below $50,000 yearly, had lost their jobs last week or hours, thereby worrying about financial catastrophes.

This can lead to sickness. At least in California, Governor Newsom issued an executive order to ban residential and commercial evictions through May 31st. This should give some help to many Californians.

The other problem is, while this Covid 19 virus is on most people's minds, there still are people who are not well with other ailments and who could benefit from the services of a health advocate, like Health Advocate Experts.
