Diabetes Has Fatal Consequences When It Collides with Covid

Diabetes affects 34 million Americans, representing 13% of adults. During the past two decades, the number of Americans with Diabetes has doubled which mirrors the alarming number of Americans who are also overweight. Over 90% of all diabetes is Type 2.

During the pandemic, people with Diabetes went into ICUs more often and were second in being hit hard, after nursing home residents. Between 30%-40% of people who wound up in the hospital due to Covid also had Diabetes and died. Covid is especially bad for people with uncontrolled Diabetes because many also struggle with high blood pressure and obesity, and Covid can wreak havoc on the immune system.

Obesity is not just an adult problem. Children who were obese who had Covid, often had to go into the ICU. Doctors are also seeing a stunning rise in children with Type 2 diabetes. This is a serious problem, because they too will struggle with problems of diabetes, like circulatory issues, neurological problems and stroke.

Then there are the millions of people who are pre- diabetes, and many don’t know it. Often people with diseases have inflammation. If these people could get their inflammation under control by taking the correct vitamins, exercising and eating a non-processed diet, they would have a good chance of not having diabetes.
