Loneliness Is Detrimental to Health

We have all been lonely at one time, and Covid has certainly caused this in all of us.

No one I speak to thinks things are the same anymore. But when chronic loneliness sets in, people have made no effort to be social and think negatively.

As humans, we are very social and have learned to have a full life, we need friends.

Chronic loneliness causes changes in the body and is linked to neurological conditions, like Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and cognitive decline.

This is serious.

Scientists believe that stress leads to inflammation in the body, which can cause disease.

It also leads to changes in mitochondria which are in all of our cells, and that give us energy, and could start dying off.

Chronic loneliness can wreak havoc on the cardiovascular system, as well. These people are probably not active and that leads to more problems.

Most research on loneliness is on middle aged adults, 40s through 60s.

People need help to pull chronically lonely people out of loneliness.

To help people out of loneliness, doctors suggest they join a class that interests them and ask them to go on a walk and get into nature. They may need to speak to a therapist to get at the root cause of their loneliness.
