A Confounding Disease Hits Children

While it is rare for children to get Covid-19, they are being bombarded with a far more mysterious disease that doctors have named Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C) in children aged newborn through age 20.

These children never had Covid-19, but they are presenting with inflamed hearts, arteries, abdominal pain, shortness of breath and vomiting. They could have four organs with inflammation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention led one of the largest studies of its kind and found:

1. After reviewing over 1,700 cases, over 75% of children never had Covid-19.



2. They only included in the study, those children who were hospitalized.

3. Many of the children required treatment in Intensive Care Units.

4. 86% of patents were less than 15.

5. Kids aged 10 and older, required much more intense care for symptoms like shock, inflammation of the heart muscle, low blood pressure.

6. Some patients had coronary aneurysms and fluid build-up.

7. Children 14 and older, had red eyes, shortness of breadth, and also likely to have chest pain, vomiting, abdominal pain and a cough.

8. Of the 1,075 patients CDC had medical information on, there median age was 11. 

9. Most patients came from the northeast, and 34% of patients were black, 37% were Hispanic and 20% were white. Only 1% of Asians were patients in the study.

This is a heartbreaking syndrome and no one yet knows why children are getting this Syndrome.
