I must say I was quite surprised reading an article in Healthy Aging, where it talks about two times in our lives where aging takes place, in our 40s and 60s.
I always thought aging was ongoing, but according to this article that is not the case. Rapid aging occurs in the 40th decade and the 60th decade.
Scientists believe that how we live our lives has an impact on how we age.
For example, stress, processed and fried food, and not exercising much, are not good for aging healthily. If, however, you eat fruits, vegetables, healthy protein, and exercise, your rate of aging could be better.
Scientists describe two biomolecular shifts around mid-40s and at age 60. In the 60s, lots of shifts occurred.
Researchers looked at a biological sample from a diverse group of 108 people. Half of the subjects were female. Researchers collected stool samples, blood, took oral swabs, and tested skin, and nasal swabs.
The scientists then tracked age related diseases from over 135,000 microbes and molecules.
One of the findings was that molecules showed no linear changes. They changed more at different ages, than at random.
Findings:
2.Physical changes occur in the 60s, like your immune system may not be able to protect you against infections, cancer and heart disease. But let’s get real for a second, I was also reading another article in Nutrition Action, and it was about osteoarthritis. And people in their 30s who are overweight are having joint problems. Excess weight carries a lot of risk at any age. I recall writing about teenagers who were getting adult diabetes due to eating a lot during Covid-19. Now
these young kids are at risk for all the consequences of adult diabetes, like heart disease, neuropathies, and other problems.
3. How you live matters. What you eat matters, and exercise matters!
